Our Corporate & Commercial Partner, Kenneth Wong, recently attended the 4th Asia Pacific Regional Meeting of AIJA (International Association of Young Lawyers) in Shanghai as a Malaysian delegate.

The meeting brought together lawyers from across the Asia Pacific and beyond, providing an opportunity to exchange perspectives on cross-border transactions, multi-jurisdictional disputes, and the practical considerations involved in navigating different legal, cultural and language environments.

The programme also provided opportunities for practitioners to connect and strengthen professional relationships within the international legal community.

We thank the organising committee and all involved for putting together a well-organised and engaging programme, and for bringing together colleagues from across the region.

We were pleased to once again support the Taylor’s University School of Law and Governance (SLG) Awards Ceremony, held on 2.9.2026.

Representing Daniel & Wong at this year’s ceremony was our Partner, Daniel Albert, who also serves as a member of the Taylor’s University Legal Profession Advisory Panel.

The ceremony was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of students across the School of Law and Governance, and to support the next generation of legal professionals as they continue their journey in the legal profession.

We congratulate all award recipients on their achievements and wish them every success in the next chapter of their journey.

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Steven Zhou, Senior Partner and Managing Director of the Singapore Office, and Joanne Zhao, Partner and Deputy Managing Director of the Singapore Office, from Hui Ye Law Firm, to our office on 20.8.2026.

Our partner, Kenneth, first connected with Steven through AIJA (International Association of Young Lawyers), where Steven serves as the Regional Coordinator and Kenneth is the local representative for Malaysia.

Having previously met in Shanghai, it was wonderful to continue the conversation in person during Steven and Joanne’s recent visit to Malaysia. We also had the opportunity to learn more about Hui Ye Law Firm’s recent expansion into Singapore.

Steven also kindly presented us with a thoughtful souvenir from China, which now has a proud place in our office.

Thank you for taking the time to visit us during your trip to Malaysia. We look forward to staying connected across our respective jurisdictions.

Three days, two nights, and a whole lot of team spirit!

Our annual firm trip to Penang was packed with great food, laughter, friendly competition, and memorable moments together.

From lively team-building games at the villa to an adrenaline-filled day tackling the challenges at ESCAPE Penang, the trip provided a welcome opportunity to unwind and reconnect as a team.

📍 Penang | 17.7.2026 –19.7.2026

On 15 July 2026, our associate, Thevan Aruljothi, led a practical session at the ATC KL Campus to help aspiring mooters strengthen their legal writing and written advocacy skills.

The session brought together 27 participants, ranging from Foundation to third-year law students. Through a presentation followed by an interactive breakout session, participants got hands-on — drafting written submissions based on a moot problem and putting the concepts straight into practice.

We thank the ATC Moot Society for the opportunity to collaborate on this initiative, and all participants for their active participation and enthusiasm throughout.

The Written Submission Competition is now underway, with submissions due 15 August 2026. We look forward to seeing the quality of submissions in the weeks ahead.

Daniel & Wong is pleased to share that our Nicholas Yap, together with Ms Santhi Latha, was recently invited to speak on a panel discussing Optimising Legal Practice with Technology: What Future Lawyers Need to Know, organised by Advance Tertiary College (ATC) and the  Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) of ATC.

The session explored, amongst others, the transformative impact of technology and artificial intelligence on the legal profession, with a particular emphasis on how future lawyers can strategically leverage technology to enhance legal research and productivity.

We extend our appreciation to ATC for the invitation and to everyone who participated in this engaging and timely discussion.

Daniel & Wong is pleased to share that our Nicholas Yap and Thevan Aruljothi recently served as judges at the Taylor’s Intervarsity Mooting Competition (TIVC) 2026, organised by Taylor’s Mooting Society, which was held on 20.6.2026 – 21.6.2026.

The competition brings together passionate law students from universities across the country, providing them with a platform to sharpen their advocacy, legal reasoning, and courtroom skills in a highly competitive setting.

We thank Taylor’s Mooting Society organising committee for a stellar and well-coordinated event!

Daniel & Wong is pleased to have supported the Asian Law Students’ Association (Malaysia) in two of its competitions:

• ALSA Malaysia Mediation Competition (AMMC) 2026, held on 9.5.2026 – 10.5.2026; and
• ALSA International Moot Court Competition (National Selection Round) (AIMCC) 2026, held on 16.5.2026 – 17.5.2026.

These initiatives provide a platform for aspiring mooters to develop their advocacy, negotiation, and legal reasoning skills, and it was encouraging to observe the high standard of participation across both events.

Our Partner, Daniel Albert, also contributed as a guest judge for the semi-final rounds of the AIMCC.

We thank ALSA Malaysia for the opportunity to support these initiatives and commend the efforts behind their organisation, as well as the participation of all teams involved.
